It's a little hot right now for winter cassoulet or stews, but we are still thinking of summer casseroles like tomato gratin. And wouldn't this new piece from le creuset colors be perfect for recipes like that?. This bowl is shaped like a tian, the round, angled, deep casserole dish that French cooks often use for gratins and other baked suppers. I love this shape of dish, but it is actually rather difficult to find. I have looked for it in many places, but aside from a few clay versions in specialty shops (like Bram) they seem to be nonexistent in American cookware. So I was delighted to see this version from Le Creuset. They call it a cassoulet dish, and indeed it is the right size and shape to make traditional cassoulet. But it would also be wonderful for other summer gratins, and even as a salad bowl. And oh, all that yummy Le Creuset color, too!. But there is also a larger, 4 1/2 quart enameled cast iron bowl, with a lid, which right now is being offered as a set with four of the stoneware bowls at Williams-Sonoma:. Last week we showed you Citron, the newish Le Creuset color at Williams-Sonoma. There are also new colors at Sur La Table and Bloomingdales, and we are rather smitten with one. The new colors are White and Black Onyx. Currently Sur La Table and Bloomingdales have an exclusive on the White, although it will be available more widely late this year. The Black Onyx is also available exclusively from Bloomingdales. We are enamored of the black; it's glossy, dark, and dramatic, and we think it would show off winter food to great effect. White bean stew with red peppers, or beef shanks with parsley. Yum yum. Why must you tempt me with the black onyx when I just got the w-s slate 5-quart over the holidays?! Oh well, I suppose one can never have too many. I am in love! I love the white. I love the black. I currently have some in blue, so either would be a nice complement to current ones. I was thinking about a larger size.. (adding to wish list now). does anyone know why lecreuset has some in gradient color and some in solid colors? I have two one in glorious blue – all glue no gradient, and one in yellow mustard – solid. I have been looking for a RED or ORANGE or warm GREEN in solid and can not find one.
